Snoop Dogg’s Trick for Cooking Bacon Is Genius
No need to pull strips of uncooked bacon apart, no greasy fingers, all neatly done.
Growing up in the early '90s had a lasting impact on my fondness for R&B, rap, and hip-hop, which remains unchanged to this day. You can still catch me listening to iconic tracks from that era on my playlist, and one of my all-time favorite artists from that time is Snoop Dogg.
Not only is his music outstanding, I've also been equally impressed by what he's done since then. From his memorable Olympic commentary and narrating Animal Planet to teaming up with renowned Martha Stewart - I'm really enthusiastic about everything he's involved in.
My culinary senses are shocked that Snoop has ventured into the world of food - his playful personality and likability really shine in this new realm. One of his most distinctive and convenient innovations in the food community is his unorthodox bacon-cooking method.

He simply removes the bacon from its package, pours the entire slab into a big skillet over medium heat, and stirs it occasionally until it becomes crispy, taking around 15 minutes total. No need to separate individual slices before cooking, no grease on your hands, and no messy clean-up.
Matheson puts all the bacon in the pan, but he breaks it into strips and arranges them in a decorative lattice pattern, creating a large pile of bacon that cooks at once, much like Snoop's method.
Snoop Dogg “More Love’s the Message” in his cookbook from the Channel 4 show. Here are a few tips for making bacon like Snoop:
- "When you're cooking bacon in the oven, you should watch out for 'that gray stuff.' That's when the bacon starts to darken. When that happens, the bacon develops a nice-caramelized flavor."
- The optimal baking temperature for bacon is 400 degrees. A nice, high temperature leads to the crispiest results.
Before giving Snoop's approach to cooking bacon a try, I had some reservations... but I was completely proven wrong. The result is incredibly tasty, with perfectly cooked bacon that has a satisfying crunch, a salty flavor, and beautiful, curled edges.
I'll share with you my top tips for cooking bacon at home, just like pro Snoop Dogg does.
- To cook bacon using this method, start by placing the bacon in a cold skillet. Then, set your stovetop burner to a low to moderate heat - medium heat being a good benchmark. This will help prevent the bottom of the bacon slab from becoming too crispy too quickly, which can cause it to tear when you try to separate the individual strips.
- You might want to hold off on breaking apart the bacon with tongs as soon as you put the slab in the pan. Let the pan cover stay on for a little while, allowing the bacon fat to melt down and creating steam.
- Just stir the bacon every now and then until it becomes crispy, and it'll come out with a nice curl and a bit of texture. If you want ideal bacon strips for a sandwich or any other recipe, take them out of the pan while they're still somewhat soft and place them on a cooling rack or a plate lined with paper towels in a straight line. As they cool, they'll set into perfectly crispy strips.
