Boy, 7, found alive in ‘lion-infested’ Zimbabwe game park after going missing for five days

A five-day search came to an end when the missing person was safely rescued from a national park overrun with lions.

From Zimbabwe Parks, which is the country's authority on parks and wildlife management.

The search for the little boy was hindered by the heavy rain in the northern area, making it challenging for the rangers to see his footprints amid the background.

On December 30th, a set of footprints was discovered in a park area, and Tinotenda was found there the following morning.

.

The child stated she became "disoriented and lost her way, inadvertently entering the treacherous Matusadonha Game Park."

According to the search team’s report, at one point, Tinotenda heard the park rangers' vehicle approaching and made a dash in their direction, but ran late to respond. Luckily, the rangers came back to search the area and spotted "fresh little footprints," which ultimately led them straight to the missing boy.

This was likely his final opportunity for rescue after being stranded in the wilderness for five days.

It's believed that Tinotenda trekked through approximately 30 miles of land, covering a distance of around 49 kilometers, inflicted by lions, over a period of five days, alive by consuming wild fruits and water from the ground.

It's believed that he trekked at least 30 miles through the rugged terrain of Zimbabwe's Matusadonha National Park, which is inhabited by lions, to reach the spot where he was rescued.

During this time, he managed to survive on wild fruits and resorted to a common tactic used in areas plagued by drought: digging a small ditch into the riverbank to tap into underground water, providing a source for drinking.

Tinotenda was rushed to a nearby medical center for initial checkups after being rescued and was subsequently transferred to a hospital for more extensive medical treatment.

The youngster who was attacked has recovered and is now in a stable condition. As part of his ongoing care, a mental health team will be evaluating him to determine if he experienced any long-term psychological effects from the incident, the MP emphasized.
